Guatemala | April 18 – 23, 2026

We start our field trip in Guatemala City, Cayala, a city park, with several key species, including the Gray Silky-Flycatcher and Guatemala Pygmy Owl; this is a local Hot Spot. We continue to Tarrales Coffee Plantation, Antigua + Antigua Lake, Pine Forest, Grasslands, Regional Parks, and more. Six days of focused birding using selected comfortable lodging and hotels, with late afternoon leisure time. Without the need for lengthy daily driving. April 17: Plan to arrive in Guatemala City on Friday. I have reserved your room at the Hampton Inn by Hilton in Guatemala City. The Hotel does not have an airport shuttle. By taxi, the ride is 30 minutes. Taxis take U.S.A. credit cards. I will help you coordinate flights so that we travel together or meet at the Guatemala City Airport.

Guatemala Birding Tours begin on April 17, 2026, with a meet-and-greet dinner at the Hotel. Our Van will meet us at the Hotel the next morning after check-out. You must arrive in Guatemala City on Friday, April 17, 2026.

Day One, April 18, 2026: Visit the Guatemala City Park Cayalá on the way to Tarrales in the afternoon. We’ll have late afternoon birding in the Tarrales. Dinner, Breakfast, and lunch at Tarrales. Two nights’ lodging in Tarrales Eco-lodge. A late morning birding stop at the Parque Arqueológico Kaminaljuyú and the Parque Cayalaa en route to Tarrales Eco-Lodge and coffee plantation. Dinner and lodging at Tarrales.

April 18 & 19 Day 2 & 3: Two days of Birding in Tarrales coffee plantation, a private eco-lodge for two nights of lodging, and two days of birding in the various habitats of the eco-lodge. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the eco-lodge dining room.

April 20, Day 4: Birding at the Atitlán lake spot sites. Mid-morning start to Lake Atitlan Rey Tepepul Park, a dry forest habitat with new species, including the Pink-headed Warbler and other neotropical warblers. The lodging continues at the Tarrales coffee Plantation.

April 21, Day 5: Birding Antigua – San Marcos Providence Birding and lodging in the city of Santa Catarina.

April 22, Day 6: Two days of Birding the San Andres metabaj (a Mayan site) and Atitlan reserve offering diverse forest and open grassland habitats. Our lodging is La Antigua in the City of Antigua.

April 23, Day 7: Return to Guatemala City, then flights home: Breakfast – Birding El Pilar farm for hummingbirds, and then transferring to the airport. Return to Guatemala City, a 90-minute drive. The trip ends in Guatemala City.

Depending on your flight schedule, you may need to stay an evening in Guatemala City, which is not included in your trip fee.
