Guatemala | April 18 – 23, 2026

We start our field trip in Guatemala City, Cayala, a city park, with several key species, including the Gray Silky-Flycatcher and Guatemala Pygmy Owl; this is a local Hot Spot. We continue to Antigua + Antigua Lake, Pine Forest, Grasslands, Regional Parks, and more. Six days of focused birding using selected comfortable lodging and hotels, with late afternoon leisure time. April 17: Plan to arrive in Guatemala City on Friday. I have reserved your room at the Best Western Hotel in Guatemala City. The Hotel does not have an airport shuttle. By taxi, the ride is 30 minutes. Taxis take U.S.A. credit cards. I will help you coordinate flights so that we travel together or meet at the Guatemala City Airport.

Guatemala Birding Tours begin on Friday, April 17, 2026, with a meet-and-greet dinner at the Hotel. Our Tour Van will meet us at the Hotel the next morning, Saturday, April 18th.. You must arrive in Guatemala City on Friday, April 17, 2026.

Day One: Saturday, April 18, 2026: Pick-up at the airport and transfer to Antigua. Along the way, we will bird Cerro Alux for endemic species, and end the day at the Antigua Hotel. Species to study are >

Day two: Sunday, April 19, 2026. Visit Finca el Pilar early morning to see hummingbirds for the whole morning, then transfer to Finca los Andes, arriving around 02:00 pm, check in, and do afternoon birding in the casco urbano.

Day three: Monday, April 20, 2026. Full morning birding at the farm, then transfer to Hotel Bambú at the shore of Lake Atitlán, afternoon birding at the gardens in Santiago village.

Day Four: Tuesday, April 21, 2026 Birding at Rey Tepepul for quetzales and endemic species at the foot of Tolimán volcano. Transfer to Panajachel and visit the Atitlán reserve.

Day Five: Wednesday, April 22, 2026 Birding Corazón del Bosque for the Pink-headed Warbler and Rincon Zúizo, then transfer to Antigua.

Day Six: Thursday, April 23, 2026 Birding at Antigua, a surrounding visit to La Antigua for luxury, and transfer to the airport to fly out.

Depending on your flight schedule, you may need to stay an evening in Guatemala City, which is not included in your trip fee.
